IoLET Examinations Recognition

Joint Certification | Exemptions from degree courses | Exemptions from Trust exams

 

 

Joint Certification
London Metropolitan University
Students who attain Pass standard in the Annotated Translation Project of the MA in Applied Translation Studies or the Translation Project & Commentary of the BA (Hons) Applied Translation qualify for a certificate awarded jointly by the IoL and LMU.
Caritas
Students who attain 50% or more in each module (minimum of 9 modules) and 50% in each component will attain a certificate jointly issued by IoLET and Caritas Francis Hsu college.
FCO
An IoLET moderator validates at least one assessment per examiner for the recently developed “Confidence Level” examination. This is the lowest level of examination offered by the FCO for its staff and spouses and is pitched at Level A2+ of the Common European Framework ie about GCSE Grade C. All candidates who pass are jointly certificated by FCO Services and IoLET.
City College Birmingham
A contract is about to be signed with City College, Birmingham, which has developed and secured funding for an Introductory Certificate in Translation Studies. This is an “A” level equivalent course which aims to fill a gap in provision in the area, particularly for the newer community languages. The course will cover the use of ICT in Translating and aims to open up viable work opportunities for those with non-specialist translating ability at this level. The IoL will agree the assessment material, moderate assessed work and jointly certificate successful students. The course began on 17 Jan 2006 and finishes in May.

 

 

Exemptions from Degree Courses
University of Birmingham
Holders of the Diploma in Translation will be granted exemption from Module 6 (Translation Project) of MA in Translation Studies.
Open University
Diploma in Translation: Credit in the form of 60 points at level 2 with BA designation.
Diploma in Public Service Interpreting: Credit in the form of 30 points at level 1 with BA designation.
DEIC: 60 points at level 2 with a "BA" designation. OU can award 15 points at level 2 for each successfully completed module and 15 points at level 2 for the background paper.
ELIC: 60 points at level 2 with a "BA" designation. OU can award 15 points at level 2 for each successfully completed module.
Intermediate Diploma: 30 points at level 1 with a "BA" designation
OU can award 10 points at level 1 for each successfully completed module.
National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters Ltd (NAATI)
NAATI (Australia) accepts Membership of the Institute of Linguists (UK) on the basis of its Diploma in Translation as meeting the requirements for NAATI accreditation as a Translator. (Level 3).
Aston University
Holders of the Diploma in Translation may be awarded credits towards the entry requirements for the MA in Translation Studies at Aston University.

 

 

Exemptions from Trust exams

Caritas
Students who attain 60% + in each module and at least 50% in all components are awarded the following exemptions:

  • Interpretation workshop (Caritas) = FDEC Module 5 (Consecutive Liaison Interpreting)
  • Summary & Commentary in Chinese II (Caritas) = FDEC Module 1 (Commentary in Chinese)
  • Summary & Commentary in English II (Caritas) = FDEC Module 2 (Commentary in English)

From 2008, the exemptions offered for the International Diploma in Bilingual Communication will be:

  • Summary & Commentary in Chinese II (Caritas) = IDBC Module 1 (Summary in Chinese)
  • Business Translation (FDEC) – IDBC Module 3 (Translation).
London Metropolitan University
Students who attain a mark of 65% or more in the Annotated Translation Project of the MA in Applied Translation Studies will be moderated by IoLET with a view to granting exemption from Paper 2 or 3 (semi-specialised translation) of the Diploma in Translation.
London Metropolitan University
Students who attain a mark of 65% or more in the Translation Project & Commentary of the BA (Hons) in Applied Translation will be moderated by IoLET with a view to granting exemption from Paper 1 (General Translation Paper) of the Diploma in Translation.
