About us
The Education Division represents members involved in all areas of language education from primary through to the university of the 3rd age. We are a forum for discussion of new issues and ideas, and are able to respond through the Institute to relevant issues in foreign language teaching and education. We hold debates, lectures and meetings on educational matters, and as we are keen to help raise the profile of the IoL, organise meetings in continental European cities as well as a variety of locations within the British Isles. We do not view ourselves as isolated from other IoL divisions as education is an intrinsic element of all facets of life. We provide networking opportunities for colleagues and our meetings are open to all IoL members as well as non members. One such occasion will be a picnic/walk in Hampshire in July and a joint London event in December with members of other divisions. Our meetings are advertised in The Linguist and below on this website, so please do come and join us when you have time.

A RARE OPPORTUNITY TO VISIT THE UNIQUE ST. GEORGE’S CHAPEL ARCHIVES AT WINDSOR
SATURDAY 4th OCTOBER 2008
Come and join with other members of the Division to enjoy this opportunity to visit the St George’s Chapel Archives at Windsor.
The event will start at 12pm for 12.30pm. Please note that for security reasons there will be no admission after 12.30pm, and it is therefore essential that you join up with the group by this time near the entrance to St. George’s Chapel. If you provide your e-mail address on the form below, we will confirm the meeting place nearer the time after consultation with the personnel at the Archives.
The Archives comprise deeds, letters, rolls and other manuscripts dating from the early 12th century in which may be traced not only the history of the Chapel but also that of properties it once possessed in 30 counties in England and Wales. Besides Great Seals of Kings and Queens there are some of the most remarkable medieval seals in the country. Among letters from the famous are those from Henry VIII, Charles II, William Pitt, Lord Howard of Effingham (the Admiral who defeated the Spanish Armada) and William, Lord Burghley (the minister of Elizabeth I).
Illuminated manuscripts include the richly decorated early registers of the Order of the Garter. Further information can be accessed on http://www.stgeorges-windsor.org/archives/arch_index.asp.
The visit to the Archives and Museum will be preceded by lunch at 12.30pm and, in the afternoon, there will be free time to spend at leisure, so you may wish to enjoy historic Windsor Castle (for which there is a separate admission charge not included in the price of this event) or the delightful town of Windsor itself.
Numbers are limited, so please book early using the reply slip below. For security purposes we have to advise numbers well in advance, and we therefore request registration and payment by 19 September 2008. Please note that those attending will need to provide photo ID on the day.
The charge for this event is £20.00 per person, to include admission to the Archives and lunch.
