Find-a-Linguist

NB This is not the National Register of Public Service Interpreters. Please see separate page for NRPSI on this website or visit the new NRPSI website.

Welcome to the Institute's Find-a-Linguist service. You can use this service to find a Translator, Interpreter, Language Tutor or a Business, Industry, Commerce & Government language specialist. Select the required category of linguist and then follow the instructions. Your search will generate a list of suitable linguists, whom you may contact directly via email, telephone or fax. Members who are listed on this and have any queries, can contact our Membership Department.

If you are using this service for the first time, please take a moment to read the notes below before entering the database. By entering the Database, you are agreeing to the terms and conditions set out in the notes below.

Notes to the User

This is a free on-line service which assists businesses and individuals to find a professional translator, interpreter, tutor or other language specialist. All the people appearing on the Database are members of the Institute of Linguists; their qualifications were checked and evaluated for the purposes of registration. Users are therefore recommended to approach those linguists whose competence lies in their stated languages and areas of speciality.

All members adhere to a Code of Professional Conduct as a guarantee of their integrity in their dealings with clients. However, work contracts are made directly between the client and the linguist, and it is important that all terms and conditions of work are clearly understood and agreed before such work is commissioned. The Institute of Linguists cannot be held responsible for any disputes arising between its members and their clients. The Institute will nevertheless arbitrate, if necessary, in the unlikely event of any dispute arising out of work contracted through this service.

You will find Fellows (FCIL) and Members (MCIL) of the Institute listed in this database. These are fully professional categories. In addition you will find Associates of the Institute (ACIL). This is not a fully professional category, but includes linguists with a pre-professional level of competence who could be approached for certain types of work.

We hope that you will find the help you need in this pool of expertise, and will return to it repeatedly. Please, contact our Membership Department with any comments you would like to make.
