Translation Manager
 
Language is Everything Ltd, a £1.6 million interpreting and translation company based in East Yorkshire, is looking to appoint a new translation manager.
 
The successful candidate will:

a) Have a stellar track record within the translation industry
b) Be able to give translation customers intelligent, shrewd and expert advice
 
c) Know how to get the very, very best out of freelance translators based around the world.
 

It is thought that the successful candidate will take up the post around about January 2009. However, there is no fixed timetable: this is a critical appointment for the company, and the recruitment process will take as long as is necessary.

The Institute of Linguists Educational Trust is the only independent examination board in the UK specialising in language examinations. We offer a range of vocational public examinations from “A” Level equivalent to postgraduate level in over 40 languages. We are currently seeking to expand our national database of native-speakers to act as examiners in the following languages:

Category 1 (high priority)
Arabic MSA, Bengali, Bengali/Sylheti, Bulgarian, Czech, Dari, English, Latvian, Lithuanian, Pashto, Romanian, Russian, Somali, Tamil, Tigrinya, Urdu, Urdu/Mirpuri
Category 2 (medium priority)
Amharic, Arabic Maghrebi, Cantonese, Croatian, Farsi, Gujarati, Hindi, Hungarian, Kurdish/Sorani, Mandarin, Panjabi, Panjabi/Urdu, Polish, Portuguese Brazilian, Portuguese European, Swahili, Thai, Turkish, Vietnamese
Category 3 (low priority)
Albanian, Armenian East, French, German, Greek, Italian, Japanese, Serbian, Slovak, Spanish, Ukrainian

All our examiners are remunerated and receive full training.

Requirements:
- Native speaker of the language/s applied for
- National Insurance Number or Tax Reference Number
- Signed Code of Conduct
- Two (2) professional references

Graduate Internship
IoL Language Services Ltd (LSL) is currently offering a unique opportunity for a post-graduate translation or linguistics student to gain first-hand experience of working for the Translation and Production Departments of a successful language organisation. Applicants with a degree in Modern Languages (minimum 2:1) will also be considered. The position will involve project management tasks combined with in-house translation activities, and the successful applicant will participate in a wide range of activities (please see below for details) and may get the chance to familiarise him/herself with translation tools such as Trados and SDLX. LSL prides itself on an inclusive and culturally diverse environment and will endeavour to create a supportive and rewarding experience for the intern.

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, show knowledge of the translation field and be aware of the financial and marketing implications of their actions. S/he will also have exceptional computer literacy and a reasonable degree of the usual personal requirements associated with management of projects; i.e. accuracy, numeracy, literacy, the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines, initiative, quality control, the ability to work unsupervised, efficiency, integrity and discretion.

The internship is open for a minimum period of 3 months, available from the beginning of February, May, August, and November. Please note that start dates may vary. The role is unpaid, but travel expenses within the London area will be covered. The position is full-time (9am-5pm, Monday to Friday) and is based at our offices in London.
