CALL FOR APPLICATIONS
English-language translators
 
The Directorate-General for Translation of the European Commission is seeking to recruit translators on the basis of temporary contracts of a maximum duration of three years.
Place of work: Brussels or Luxembourg.
Successful applicants will be required to translate documents into English from at least two official EU languages.
Candidates must
·         be nationals of an EU Member State;
·         be university graduates, having completed a first degree of at least three years' duration;
·         have a perfect command of English as their main language, an excellent knowledge of either French or German and a very sound knowledge of a further EU official language;
·         be prepared to relocate to Brussels or Luxembourg if they are recruited.
Documented experience in translation would be an asset.
After screening the CVs submitted, the selection board will invite the most suitable applicants to sit selection tests (scheduled for April).
The selection tests will comprise:
·         a translation into English from German or French;
·         a translation into English from a second EU official language offered by the candidate, and

·         an oral test intended to assess the candidate’s professional skills and knowledge of EU affairs.

Candidates must state in their application letter their choice of first and second source languages for the
written tests.
For the written tests, candidates may use their own non-electronic (paper format) dictionaries.
Candidates are advised to consult the EU Staff Regulations (Conditions of Employment of Other Servants of the European Communities) here for details of the conditions of employment.

DPSI Tutors Required
Cintra Ltd, an interpreting agency based in Cambridge, is looking for language tutors for students currently on their DPSI courses, to start work as soon as possible.
 We need:
  • A Lithuanian tutor for the DPSI Law course DPSI Law or Dip Trans (with relevant experience in legal sector) qualified
  • A Slovak and a Lithuanian tutor for the DPSI Health course. Ideally, we would like applicants with DPSI Health, however we would consider DPSI Law interpreters with experience in the health sector, or translators with a Dip Trans (and the relevant experience in the sector)
Location is not crucial – our courses are based elsewhere, and tutoring via Skype is an option.
